Notice from East Grinstead Town Council We’ve been informed that the County Council is not going to consider the Structure Plan on July 25th. The discussion on it has been postponed to October. This has nothing to do with the East Grinstead houses issues but is the Council's reaction to Transport Secretary Alastair Darling's refusal to implement the South Coast Multi Modal Study recommendations. The Minister has said that the A27 improvements (Worthing and Arundel bypasses, Chichester bypass improvements) should not go ahead. This impacts on two other of the County's Strategic Housing locations - Chichester and West Arun, and the County needs time to think through the consequences. This means that the next County Council discussion will not be until at least November at the earliest, impacting on the Town Councilís consultation timetable. The Town Council will be closely watching the developing situation but remains committed to working for a full and open consultation process on the draft Structure Plan to meet whatever new timetable is tabled by the County Council.
