3 Counties Group Press Release A Green Hope for Imberdown—At Last To myself and many EG residents, the words of Catherine Edminson, Green Party Candidate for Imberdown Division, come as long-awaited music to our ears. In her recent flyer distributed locally she makes unequivocally clear her full support for those 10,000 petitioners who said “No” to 2500 Houses at EG. Insofar as future housing may be required, she states clearly the pre-conditions: these must be on brown-field sites; and close to existing public transport corridors. Ms. Edminson strongly reinforces major infrastructural and environmental concerns we all, to little avail, have warned of to sitting councillors. What then do we know of the past and current positions of her Imberdown contenders? Well, we all know Edward “5000 Houses” Matthews. (EG Courier, 5 July, 2004); People at the recent (13 April) PRC (Post-Referendum Committee) Chequer Mead Meeting were keen to learn what his current line on the Houses might be. Disappointment. Matthews was not in attendance. Legal/technical reasons were cited. What then of Ms. Edminson’s other contender? I speak of current incumbent, Philip Coote. Little is clearly known of Mr. Coote’s public position on the 2500 houses. He has been consistently evasive. Certainly, Mr. Coote did not please his constituents when he failed to turn up for the critical 23 July 2004 County Council Meeting when the County, ignoring intense local opposition, voted to site the houses here at EG. Regarding his absence from the recent PRC Chequer Mead gathering, legal/technical reasons were cited. For those who have long sought a representative who will carry to the Councils of Chichester a strong, clear view of what people up here in distant EG most intensely feel and want, ‘twould seem Ms. Edminson has been Heaven-sent. It is now up to the electors of Imberdown to bring the force of their votes to bear on May 5th—and in the earlier submissions/polling of those who have chosen to entrust their ballot to the Postal Vote—to ensure that what has long been urgently needed, will finally be achieved. Yours Sincerely Dr. M. Vickers | Close | |
